NPOs play a vital role within our communities across Africa and faced severe challenges during the height of the Coronavirus pandemic. Many of these NPOs saw their funds decrease, whilst the need for their services grew exponentially. This left those on the frontline, caring for thousands of vulnerable people, under increasingly crippling funding pressures.
As a Foundation, we felt compelled to help the non-profit sector carry the load and so the Mergon Gap Fund was born. The Mergon Foundation has a long history of carefully selecting exceptional NPO partners who have a track record of delivering essential services to communities in need. We have partnership bases in South Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa.
The Gap Fund raised over R8 million over the last year and made contributions to a total of 252 beneficiaries. We are so thankful to every individual and organisation who contributed so generously toward the Gap Fund. Your support allowed these NPOs to not just continue their valuable work, but in many cases, enabled them to step up and fulfil an even bigger role than they had previously.
